Prospect Watch: The Chihuahuas fired on all cylinders Friday, as the club hit three homers and struck out 16 Space Cowboys in an impressive win on the road. … After a paperwork issue prevented him from playing Thursday, Jake Cronenworth began his rehab assignment Friday in style with a homer and double. He had the two hardest-hit balls of the night at 107.5 and 104.1 mph and hit his homer 413 feet at sea level in suburban Houston. He only whiffed on one of his 12 swings on the night, but was more generous in expanding the zone than ideal, putting up a 36% chase rate. The two-time All-Star has been on the concussion-injured list since early May, after being hit in the jaw with a 97-mph heater in a game against the Angels. … Blake Hunt had a nice game at the plate, connecting on a two-run homer in the fourth inning and a double in five plate appearances. He drove in a game-high four runs, and his big night raised his OPS for El Paso to 1.000. The 27-year-old made his big league debut on June 19 after playing in over 500 minor league game in four different organizations. He went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts in his lone opportunity, but will look for his next opportunity to be a longer one. … Jackson Wolf deployed his six-pitch mix well to earn his fifth win of the season. The southpaw fired five innings, allowing just one run on three hits while racking up a strong 41% whiff rate. He walked four and struck out eight. It was the third straight start in which the 27-year-old completed five innings. In 18 games (11 starts), he has a 5.65 ERA. 

Arkansas Travelers 7, Missions 4

Prospect Watch: The Travelers scored three times in the first inning and held on to defeat the Missions. Victor Lizarraga struggled mightily as his lack of command continues to be a big cause for concern. He threw 56 pitches while completing just 1.1 innings – only 16 for strikes. He allowed four runs and a staggering seven walks before departing. The 22-year-old has had intermittent command issues this season. He walked 17 batters in 15.2 April innings, including 11 in his first 5.1 innings this season. In five May starts, he had a 2.66 ERA, walking just eight batters in 23.2 innings. In his first June start, he walked six in just 2.1 innings before being pulled. In his next three starts, he walked just five over 17 innings before Friday’s meltdown. Lizarraga has shown the ability to make adjustments, but his inconsistent strike-throwing has led to poor overall results. He has a 6.45 ERA in 15 games (13 starts). … At the plate, 27-year-old utilityman Wyatt Hoffman was the only Missions player to record two hits. The system veteran doubled, singled, and drove in a run. The former University of Pacific infielder is in his fifth year in the system after signing as an undrafted free agent. In 297 games as a professional, Hoffman has a career slash-line of .187/.305/.253. … Braedon Karpathios connected on his sixth homer of the season in the loss. After struggling mightily in April, the 23-year-old played well in May, and he’s continued to hit well into June. In 20 games this month, the Missions outfielder is hitting .276/.382/.447. He still has quite a bit of swing-and-miss in his game, but he’s shown the ability to get on base and has posted impressive exit velocities throughout his time in the system.

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps hit three homers and went 5-for-8 with runners in scoring position to cruise to a win against Lake County. … Ryan Wideman had his first multi-hit game since joining the TinCaps with a pair of singles. He also drew a walk in five plate appearances. He is off to a 4-for-17 start in four games since earning his promotion from the Storm. After logging his first 782 professional innings in center field, the 22 made his first start in left field Friday. … Justin DeCriscio had three hits, including his fifth homer of the season. The shortstop has been a steady performer with Fort Wayne after a hot start in Lake Elsinore. The 23-year-old has produced league-average offense with a solid 11.9% walk rate and an excellent 15% K-rate since his promotion. His offensive output, coupled with defensive versatility, makes him a solid system player with a chance to be more. … Kerrington Cross connected on his first High-A homer, as the former Cincinnati Bearcat continues to hit. The 24-year-old is off to a .250/.500/.500 start with Fort Wayne after posting a league-leading 1.075 OPS in the Cal League. … Rosman Verdugo had two hits, including his 11th homer. Verdugo is just two away from tying the career-high 13 he hit last year. He needed 404 at-bats to hit that mark, but is most of the way there in just 219 plate appearances this season. Verdugo has been a mainstay in the Summit City each of the last three years, with 2026 being the most encouraging campaign yet. The 22-year-old has cut his K-rate from 32% to 22% this season while keeping his walk-rate above 13%. His .243 average on balls in play has hindered his offensive production, but the power Verdugo possesses for a second baseman is very intriguing. … Kash Mayfield struggled Friday and did not factor in the decision. Mayfield tossed 2.2 innings and allowed two runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out a pair. The organization slowed the lefty down in June after he ended May by allowing six runs while recording one out in a game against South Bend. He made his next start, tossing five innings, before skipping a week as a bit of a restart. Mayfield has pitched just 4.2 frames over his last two starts. The former first-rounder has thrown 44.2 innings this season. 

Fresno Grizzlies 10, Storm 4

Prospect Watch: Lake Elsinore fell behind early and struggled to string hits together, losing at home to Fresno. The loss dropped the Storm to 1-6 in the second half. … Bradley Frye had a pair of hits, including a double. The former Mercer infielder got off to a scorching start, hitting .366 in April. He fell back to earth in May, hitting .193, but he’s increased his walk rate in June. The 23-year-old has a .383 OBP this month. … Catcher Yoiber Ocopio had a single and a pair of RBIs to lead the team on Friday. The 21-year-old Venezuelan backstop has been pressed into playing time, thanks to Ty Harvey’s injury. He has taken advantage of his opportunity, providing solid offense. His glove is a work in progress, but he has already matched his career-high with four homers in 2026. … Kruz Schoolcraft, in a microcosm of his first professional season, pitched well at times, but his overall pitching line was a bit uneven. The young lefty pitched five innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits. He walked three and struck out four. Schoolcraft pitched five innings in each of his June starts. The former first-rounder will finish June with a 4.95 ERA. After walking 14 in 17.1 innings in May, he walked seven batters in 20 June innings. 

ACL Padres 9, ACL Diamondbacks 3

Prospect Watch: The ACL Padres beat up on the Diamondbacks on a 109-degree night in Peoria. … Center fielder Moises Valdez connected on his first stateside homer in the victory. The 20-year-old outfielder hit .400 in May but has come back to Earth in June, hitting just .226. … Santiago Vargas reached base three times with a pair of singles and a walk. He scored three runs and stole his fifth base of 2026. The switch-hitting 18-year-old signed as an international free agent in January of 2025 but made his pro debut in the desert this year. In 30 games, the Colombian infielder is hitting .245/.325/.382. … Lefty Adler Cecil turned in the longest outing of his professional career, earning his first win of the season in the process. Cecil, 21, completed five innings for the first time and allowed a pair of runs on four hits. He walked just one and struck out a career-high 10 batters. Cecil is working back from Tommy John surgery, and although he’s struggled with consistency, he’s looked dominant at times. In 25.2 innings, Cecil has 43 strikeouts, and opposing batters are hitting just .193. After walking 34 batters in 22.2 innings in his pro debut back in 2024, he’s walked 14 in 25.2 innings this season. The southpaw could be the next arm promoted out of the desert. He attended high school in Temecula, just 15 miles from The Diamond.
